2008 Red Wine Napa Valley

The Red Wine has wonderful layers of rich cherry and black fruit. We added Cabernet Sauvignon for structure and give the wine long rich finish with mouth-watering acid. The Malbec adds the floral aroma and dark fruit flavors. Finally we added a dash of Petit Verdot to complement the wine profile.

The Red Wine is approachable in its youth, but will cellar well for years of enjoyment. The wine is well balanced, has a beautiful aroma, complex and layers of fruit flavor. Our Red Wine can be enjoyed with a variety of food, or by itself.

Wine Profile

Ratings The 2008 Red Wine from proprietors Raj and Shilta Patel is a blend of 48% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot. It is a slightly down-sized version of the Proprietary Red. No. 1, but still impressively endowed, with a deep ruby/purple color, loads of sweet black currant fruit, some kirsch, licorice, and spice. Medium to full-bodied, it is not quite the seamless tour de force of the 2007 No. 1, but it is still an outstanding wine. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. An impressive discovery during my sojourn in Northern California were these wines from Patel. -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #192, December 2010: 91 Points Copyright 2010, The Wine Advocate, Inc. - Reprinted with permission
Production Notes We adhere to strictest quality standards. From the vineyard, the clusters are all hand-sorted, 100% de-stemming, the berries are again hand sorted, berry by berry. After three to five days of cold pre-fermentation in small open-top fermenters. We start fermentation by adding yeast and four to five weeks later; the fruit is gently pressed and moved to barrel where it finishes the remaining secondary fermentations. The wine continues to the carefully age in new French oak barrels from artesian French Coopers. To assure proper aging we age our wines for about eighteen to twenty months in a combination of rare barrels from Ana Selection and Darnajou. After many blending trials, the wine is bottled, unfine and unfiltered.
